Tennis Days

Monday

On Monday I went to the Melbourne Park to watch some tennis! In the conference ground tickets for the Australian open were included till Wednesday. I saw Monaco, Justine training and the first round of Xavier Malisse! He won quite easily, however, he was always complaining about the referee and the linesmen.

A coach who I met at the conference offered me a ticket for free for the Monday night session in the Rod Laver arena. I saw Yanina Wickmaeyer defeating Australian Groth. Then I went to see Verdasco on Margareth court. Then I went back to Rod Laver to see Djokovic.

Tuesday

On Tuesday I met Jill at her hostel. We went for a walk at South Bank and we did a boat trip. We went with the boat past the sporting arenas.

After the trip we had some lunch. Then jill went to do groceries and I went to the tennis. At 5pm we met again at the tennis and we went to the Rod Laver evening session. We saw the game of Kim Clijsters, but it didn’t last long. After 20 minutes she won the first set and after 45 minutes she won 6-0 6-0. Kim played very well so we could use our supporting equipment with “Beat that” and “Supershot” all the time. The stadium was sold out!
6-0 6-0 That was fast!

After Kims game we went to one of the smaller courts to support Kirsten Flipkens. She lost in 2 sets. Then we went back to the Rod Laver arena and we saw Hewitt – Nalbandian. In the fourth set we went back home because it was becoming late and we would miss the tram. Later I saw that it was a very close game.

 Wednesday

On Wednesday morning we went on a guided tour with a volunteer. It was just Jill and me and the guide. The guide showed us some cozy streets, old and new buildings,…. We definitely saw things that we would not see otherwise. He also took us to the Sofitel to go on the 35th floor where there was a very nice view. It was funny, but the best view was from the toilets. J We could see the tennis park. The guide was very friendly and in 3h we saw a lot of nice places in Melbourne. Some pictures of the tour:

We had a pic nic lunch on Federation Square and then we went to the tennis again with ground passes ;-) We took a bike cab which was sponsored by the bank ANZ. We saw the second round of Xavier Malisse and he won again! Then we saw Yanina Wickmaeyer. She was not as strong as when I saw her on Monday. She did what she could but she lost. We went to the oval to see some tennis on the big screen. We went to bed early today and I started packing to move hostel because on Thursday night Philippe arrived.
