Byron and Dreamtime

New Years Eve
Our New Years Eve was not very special... We were so tired of our beach day, that we all needed a nap when we came home. After the nap we went to friends of Philippe for a drink and at 11pm we went to Burleigh Heads to see the fire work at Surfers and Broadbeach. Unfortunately we could not see much as we were a bit too far away... Next year I want to go to Sydney!

Saturday
On Saturday it was raining again.... So we slept long and I worked a bit on my PhD. in the afternoon we went to the cinema and we saw "love and other drugs".

Sunday - Byron Bay
On Sunday morning we left early with the bikes to go to Byron Bay, 70km south from where we live. Byron Bay is located in New South Wales, so there it is one hour earlier. Once we left the highway we had to go on a 8km long one lane road to Byron and it was one huge traffic jam! But with the bikes we could pass the cars and save some time. Once we arrived we went to Woolworths to buy our lunch: baguette with Boursin  and other cheese. Then we went to the beach at Byron Bay. Some pics:

After some hours in the sun we wanted to go for a swim again to cool down but we could see that some people were stung by jelly fishes so we decided not to swim. We laid down at the grass under the trees instead. This was the view:

We relaxed till 5pm and then we went to another little bay and there we started the walk to the lighthouse. It was a nice walk with nice views over the ocean and the rocks:

After the walk we went to the Cheeky Monkey Bar. This was a bar-restaurant-pub were they offer 5$ dinners on Sunday nights. At the entrance we had to show our ID just as in all other pubs and dancings. We had a good dinner and we enjoyed watching the cheap dressed girls and boys finding their date of the night. Around 8.30pm we went back home. It was a long ride in the dark... I was happy to be home!

Monday
On Monday I had to work again so I went to Bond. It is hard to work when everyone is in a holiday and when the weather is so nice. I stopped a bit earlier at work and I went home at 4pm. When I came home we went to Dreamtime beach, our favourite beach,  with Jill, Phil, Charlie, Gabby, Pierre and Liv. Phil and Jill had a swim and they climbed up the rocks. Then we went up the hill, rock to enjoy the nice views.

Then we played some beach volleyball till it was too dark to see the ball :-) Good fun.

We had BBQ for dinner and then we went to bed, all exhausted again!

Tuesday
On Tuesday I went to Bond again to work on my PhD. Phil and Jill went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to look at the animals and to do the Green Challenge, a circuit in the trees.

Easy!

:-)

In the evening Phil worked for his first night in an Italian restaurant. Because it was Jill's 24th birthday we decided to go to the Italian restaurant with all the housemates (Gabby, Pierre, Reece, me and Jill). We had a enjoyable night and good food! And I can say that Phil did a good job as a waiter! Jill received a chocolate cake because it was her birthday!

After the restaurant Jill, Gabby and I went to Surfers Paradise and we went to a night club, Sin City! It was girls night which means 20dollars general admission and then free drinks for girls! We had a good night at the club!

Wednesday
On Wednesday I did some work again... For lunch we went to the Terriaki Mate, a Japanese Restaurant with the roommates again.

After lunch I showed Jill around at Bond Uni. I showed her my building (the faculty of health sciences and medicine), the university centre, the multimedia learning centre, the bond book shop, the swimming pool, the volleyball courts, the library... Then we walked home which took around 30 minutes.

In the evening Phil worked again at the restaurant and Charlie took Jill and me out (to the restaurant) for her birthday again. In the evening I had to give Phil a foot massage as his feet were hurting because he had to stand all evening in the restaurant.

This evening it started raining again... and rain is also the weather forecast for the next week :-(

More news the next post!
